2010 Transfer Station Stickers Now on Sale

Canton residents may now purchase annual permit stickers for use of the transfer station in calendar year 2010 from the Town Clerk’s office during the following regular business hours:

8:15am-4:30pm on Monday, Tuesday & Thursday

8:15am-6:45pm on Wednesday

8:15pm-12 noon on Friday

In addition, special additional hours will be held to purchase stickers on Saturday, January 9, 2010, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Proof of current registration (copy or an original) MUST be shown in order to receive the permit. The permit sticker fee is $100.00 for residents. For an additional $1.00 you may purchase a duplicate sticker for use on another vehicle in your household with proof of registration.

You may also receive the annual permit sticker if you send a check payable to the “Town of Canton,” a self-addressed, stamped envelope, and a copy of your vehicle registration.

Once a resident is permitted, a fee is charged for the disposal of bulky waste based on the size of vehicle.  Tokens for this bulky waste fee must also be purchased at the Town Clerk’s office.

The Transfer Station is located on Ramp Road, adjacent to Powder Mill Road and Route 202.  It is open Tuesday through Saturday between 7:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.  The town accepts household refuse, metal and glass containers, newspapers, magazines, mixed paper, white metal, furniture and other bulky waste, waste motor oil, anti-freeze, leaves and brush.  The “Swap Shack” allows residents to “recycle” unwanted items.  However, there is no scavenging of disposed material other than the Swap Shack.  There are also two collection bins for donations; one to the Salvation Army and the other for the benefit of the Booster Club who collects empty bottles and cans.
